QLF is a major focus in the Dental Health Unit and is currently being used in a number of clinical trial applications.

The basis of QLF is one of enhancing the optical difference between sound and demineralised enamel, enabling lesions to be detected at an earlier stage.

The above example illustrates the appearance of early caries lesions using both regular imaging and QLF.  The system permits these lesions to be analysed and a number of metric outputs of lesion size and severity can be calculated.

Staff at the DHU have published several articles on QLF and these can be seen on the publications page.
