The Journal of Forensic Sciences (JFS)
is one of the most widely read periodicals in the field. It is the
official publication of the American Academy
of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and is available to members as part of
their subscription fee. Membership
in the odontology section is appropriate for forensic dentists.
Members can access online articles from 1998 onwards. An online table
of contents is available, which can be searched using a variety of key
words. Published every two months it has an eclectic coverage of
forensic issues, many of which are of interest to the odontologist.

Journal of Clinical Forensic Medicine
This Journal is the official publication of the Association
of Police Surgeons in the UK. It is published by Harcourt
International, and has a home page on their site.
The Journal carries reviews of key issues, and a number of articles on
human identification have been published recently. Instructions for
authors are available here.
The Journal of Forensic-Odontostomatology
The official Journal of the International Organization for Forensic
Odonto-Stomatology (IOFOS),
the JFOS is published twice a year from Australia. The website can
be found here,
which includes subscription information. This is the only
periodical devoted entirely to forensic dentistry, although it is
somewhat difficult to find. Abstracts from the 2000 editions can
be found at the website, with associated information.
International Journal of Legal Medicine
This is publication is typically the highest rated (by impact factor)
forensic journal. It is published by Springer
and is the official journal of the International
Academy of Legal Medicine. Publishing a range of case reports,
reviews and research reports, all aspects of forensic science are
covered. Available in many libraries, an email
alert system is offered by Springer. 6 issues will be
published in 2001. Instructions for authors can be found here.
Medicine, Science and the Law
This is the official publication of the British Academy of Forensic
Science. Published quarterly it contains articles of general
interest to medical professionals involved in treating patients (medicolegal
issues) as well as more traditional forensic case reports and
studies. Recently published was an excellent review article on
facial reconstructions. No webpage available currently for either
the Academy or the journal, but subscription information is here.

Science &
Justice, Official Publication of the Forensic Science Society, UK
Science & Justice, formerly known as the Journal of the Forensic
Science Society is published quarterly in the UK. Available to FSS
members, it has a broad range of articles appealing to all forensic
scientists. Recent articles have concentrated on the certification
of forensic practitioners and the validation of techniques. DNA
and trace evidence handling also feature. Membership details for

for authors are available as well as recent articles
of interest.
International Journal of Forensic Science
This is one of the highest rated forensic journals and is published by Elsevier.
A range of articles, normally describing empirical research, are
published and rarely review articles. Normally found in libraries,
the journal has its own homepage.
The website provides extensive information on the publication, and you
can order a free sample copy and subscribe to receive emailed tables of
contents. Instructions
for authors are also supplied.
Legal Medicine
Again published by Elsevier, this
journal is the official publication of the Japanese
Society of Legal Medicine, and contains articles mainly from this
region. The homepage of the group contains tables of contents and
usefully includes details of upcoming articles. The publisher's website
contains instructions
for authors and details on how to subscribe for email updates.
American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology
The official publication of the the National Association of Medical
Examiners (NAME), this journal is
published by Lippincourt Williams. The webpage
contains tables of contents, instructions for authors as well as subscription
information. The journal is directed at the US medical
examiner system, but does contain information of use to forensic
dentists around the world.
Forensic Science Abstracts
In the days of Medline and similar search engines for journal abstracts,
content journals are less popular. From 1975 Forensic Science
Abstracts has scoured 4,500 biomedical journals for articles of interest
to forensic scientists. Available from Elsevier
with a free
online sample and purchase information. Six issues are
published a year.
