must for anyone interested in the subject. It is a worthwhile resource
for those beginning their careers and a valuable reference for those
with more experience. Written by a series of respected authors,

Recently published this is an excellent guide to the digital analysis of
bitemarks. The spiral bound book covers the use of Adobe
Photoshop to correct all manner of photographic distortion and overlay
production. The book comes with a computer disk containing sample
images with which to work from. This book is highly recommended
for those who undertake bitemark case work, as the use of digital
techniques is becoming the norm in such analyses. The book

Forensic Odontology, G Willems
Recently published (2000) this is one of the newer texts on the
subject. This test is the published proceedings of the IOFOS 2000
meeting which was held in Leuven, Belgium. The text of each of the
major contributors is included as well as abstracts of the poster
presentations. The text is available in the US directly from this
site at $55 or in Europe from the publishers at € 30,00. You can

Simpson's Forensic Medicine, B Knight
The essential text for forensic medicine and essential reading for
forensic dentists especially those challenging the DMJ(Odont)
examination. The 11th Edition is written by leading pathologist
Bernard Knight and is illustrated with colour throughout. The book

Another book on the DMJ(Odont) reading list. A re-edition of an
old classic, replacing that 1975 volume, this is a beautiful book and
well suited to any forensic dentists book shelf. Not only for

Legal Aspects of Medical Practice, B Knight
Another essential text for those undertaking the DMJ(Odont)
examination. Specific to the UK, this text can be purchased

Butterworth's Police Law, J English, R Card
A recommended read on the DMJ(Odont) reading list and essential for

Forensic Dentistry, PG Stimson & CA Mertz, Editors
This is a very well written book edited by two US forensic
dentists. Presented in hard cover with numerous illustrations the
authors describe all aspects of forensic odontology with sections on
bitemarks, identifications, mass disasters and legal aspects of the
discipline. The book is an easy read and is of most use to those
who are considering beginning forensic dentistry. An extremely
useful guide to legal cases is included. The book costs $94.95 and

Craniofacial Identification in Forensic Medicine, JG Clement & DL
Ranson, Editors
This is a beautiful book. It covers all aspects of craniofacial
identification, from the reflection of oral tissues to facial
reconstruction. Pages on the duplication of skulls, the effect of
ageing on recognition and forensic dentistry make the text an excellent
reference. Written for experts and interested beginners alike the
book is an easy read. Presented in large format hardback, this is
an expensive buy. Nonetheless, it is recommended. You can

normally £125. This book is recommended reading for the DMJ.
Clinical Forensic Medicine
Once again, a DMJ(Odont) text ideal for forensic dentists revising for
this exam. A detailed overview of forensic medicine, it
supplements Simpson's extremely well. A more advanced text, it
answers all questions regarding evidence collection, mortuary hazards,
etc. Difficult to source, this text can be purchased
on-line for £49.50.

A Colour Atlas of Forensic Dentistry, DK Whittaker, DG MacDonald
This is a beautifully illustrated, practical guide to all aspects of
forensic dentistry with case examples throughout. Published by Mosby,
it is hard backed. Blackwell's
list the title, but the publisher is not presenting it on their website
currently. The book is listed with Blackwell's at £55.00.
